Section 1 - Horticultural Classes:
Perennials/Annuals/Biennials/Bulbs

SHOW
RULES
1. Entries
will be received between 6:45 and 7:30 pm. No entries will
be accepted after 7:30 pm, at which time judging will begin.
All entries must remain in place at the show until 20 minutes
past the conclusion of the Society's meeting.
2. Judging will be in accordance to The Ontario Judging and
Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture and Floral Design, 2003
Edition. Exhibitors are encouraged to refer to this book.
3. The decision of the Judge(s) will be final.
4. Exhibitors must be members in good standing of the Credit
Valley Horticultural Society.
5. Horticultural entries are limited to two per class per
exhibitor, provided they are of a different species/cultivar,
unless otherwise specified. Designs are limited to one per
class and must be the work of the exhibitor.
6. Niche space will be 32" wide by 28" high. Designs,
once placed, may not touch the niche. Niches will be available
on a first come, first serve basis and are available in light
grey, pale green and white.
7. All entries must have been grown by the exhibitor, except
for materials used in the Design Classes. Entries in the Houseplant
Classes must have been cared for by the exhibitor for at least
three months prior to the show.
8. Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry tag,
which is available at the show. Wherever possible, Horticultural
Division entries should be named to enhance the educational
value of the show.
9. Exhibitors must provide their own containers, unless otherwise
specified. Each entry must be in its own container.
10. Only Show Committee members are permitted to move exhibits
in the Horticultural Division (for spacing purposes). In the
Design Division, only the exhibitor may move his/her design.
Exhibitors are not permitted to touch any entry during judging.
11. The Society will not assume responsibility for the property
of the exhibitors, although all precautions will be taken
by the show committee.
12. Flowers in the Horticultural Classes should be shown with
their own foliage, attached or unattached, unless otherwise
stated.
13. The description provided in each Class must be followed
exactly (i.e. if one stalk is specified, only one may be shown
per entry). Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
Any bud showing colour must be considered a bloom.
14. Any diseased or infested plant will not be accepted for
entry in order to protect the exhibits of others.
15. No awards will be given to a substandard exhibit, even
though it may be the only one in the class.
16. The show committee may subdivide classes where necessary
and remove entries not conforming to show standards.
Hints for Design Classes
Water
Viewing Design - Usually a line design in a shallow container(s)
with one-half to two-thirds of the container surface showing
water.
The Ontario
Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Horticulture and Floral
Design, 2003 Edition Glossary sets out the elements, principles
and style of design, the types of design and their definition.
No
soil is permitted in floral design. Sand, pebbles and
chips, etc., are permissible.
